Water valve now fully open
TOWN OF LEE — Low water pressure that had developed in the town’s water system has been corrected, Water Supervisor David Piersall said Thursday.
The pressure is "back to normal" after adjustments were made in one of the "isolation valves" that work in conjunction with a pressure-reducing valve, Piersall said.
Piersall said he determined Wednesday night that an isolation valve had not been completely opened back up last fall when it was serviced by town water department staff. But the effect on water pressure did not become apparent until recent heavier usage of water in the system, he explained. Piersall had begun investigating the issue Tuesday night upon receiving several calls about low water pressure.
After the valve was fully returned to an open position Wednesday night, the water pressure was "right on the money" at regular levels, Piersall said. The valves are in a covered "valve pit" unit off Route 26 south of the Stokes corners intersection.
Piersall at one point believed the problems may have centered on the pressure-reducing valve itself. He said "we do still need to do servicing work on the pressure reducer," and will "schedule that in the near future." The water system will experience "increased pressure" during that servicing, he added.
Lee’s municipal water system has about 1,300 customer accounts.
