TACtile presents the Steamed Fashion Show

DENVER, CO – On Friday, June 24, TACtile Textile Arts Center in Denver, Colorado hosted the Steamed Fashion Show at their gallery in the Denver Tech Center. The show, which featured designs from several local and non-local designers, celebrated fashions inspired by the Steampunk movement.

The show kicked off with a social hour in which guests could mingle and check out the Steampunk exhibit, which is currently on display at the TACtile gallery. Steampunk author and editor Christopher Ficco was also on hand to sign his new book and to educate guests about the movement.

Steampunk refers to a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history and theoretical fiction, specifically, an era or world in which steam power is widely used. Stories are often set in the Victorian era. Elements of Steampunk have been seen in collections by designers such as John Galliano and the late Alexander McQueen . Fashions inspired by this genre often feature Victorian era touches including goggles, corsets and technical accessories, such as pocket watches and gears.

Garments in the show ranged from outfits that were purely Victorian to modern garments with a Steampunk twist. Several of the outfits included accessories by Illinois-based designer Teresa Stanton (who flew into Denver specifically for the show) and hats by Kitty Mae. Designers featured in the show included Francis Roces of Kimono Dragons, Jeni Mac, Karyn Estela and Joyce Guertin, among others.

Proceeds from the show benefitted the TACtile organization. TACtile is a non-profit organization which features exhibitions, workshops and meeting spaces for textile artists. Classes are also available for novice designers, and include introductions to sewing, silk painting and handbag design, among others. Their gallery is located at 1955 S.
