Ringgold Beats Ft. Oglethorpe In Battle Of Catoosa Co.Tiger Sharks Earn First CASL Victory By Nipping Marlins

A small war was waged in Catoosa County Monday night.
Thankfully no lives were lost and nobody got hurt, but there was an intense battle at the Arlene Crye Municipal Pool in Fort Oglethorpe.
It was a key Blue Division battle in the Chattanooga Area Swim League, but the visiting Ringgold Tiger Sharks were the winners in the meet with the Fort Oglethorpe Marlins.
It was nip and tuck from the opening race right on down to the final event before the Tiger Sharks prevailed, 379-373.
Ringgold coach Chris Chow stood at the pool's edge and told his kids they had to win those races in the final event, the ever-exciting freestyle relays.
The Marlins had a 60-56 edge in that final event, but the difference wasn't enough to pull out the victory.
Ringgold's biggest lead in the first half was at 119-100 following the breaststroke.
Fort Oglethorpe cut it to 167-164 after the medley relays. The Tiger Sharks still had the upper hand at 213-206 following the individual medley.
Ringgold probably won the meet in the backstroke races when the Tiger Sharks had a 62-47 advantage to extend their lead to 275-253.
The difference was 10 points at 323-313 following the butterfly races, which was enough of a lead to withstand Fort Oglethorpe's final charge.
Chow is a mechanical engineering major at Georgia Tech where he's a member of the Ramblin' Wreck cheerleading squad.
He did a wonderful job of keeping the Ringgold spirit alive and well during the meet. Apparently, his enthusiasm rubbed off on some of his swimmers.
"Great job tonight," he told his kids right after the final race had concluded.
"All of these kids swam great tonight, but we had a lot of team support and they pulled each other through.
"I swam at Ringgold for 10 years and they've always been our biggest rival. It's always a close meet and a lot of fun.
"I'm really ecstatic with tonight's win. These kids really stepped up," Chow added.
Fort Oglethorpe coach Tony Womack was also mighty happy with the effort his kids put forth.
"What a great meet from start to finish. You've got to enjoy a meet like this one," Womack said afterward.
