White Plains Independence Day Celebration
The White Plains Recreation and Parks Department held its annual Independence Day Celebration, held at the White Plains High School on Thursday evening. The celebration was filled with music, food, children’s entertainment and rides, and of course—the spectacular fireworks display.
“It’s really a great night and it’s an example of what goes on here in White Plains every year”, said White Plains Commissioner of Recreation and Parks Albert Moroni.
Entertainment on the main stage featured music by Wade Preston’s Billy Joel Tribute Group, whose set list included the inimitable Root Beer Rag which really got the crowd moving.
Entertainment for the kids featured Annie and the Natural Wonder Band, Lisa and Company, Animal Embassy, Dinosaurs Rock, Magical Memories, Miz Liz Variety Show, and Macaroni the Clown. Also for the kids were inflatable rides provided by Inflatable Party Adventures .
Prior to the fireworks Moroni welcomed the crowd of thousands, and the City of White Plains Public Safety Jewish War Veterans Post #191 offered the traditional presentation of the flag as Councilman Dennis J. Power sang the National Anthem. Mayor Thomas Roach addressed the crowd, thanked the sponsors and counted down to the start of the fireworks.
Provided by International Fireworks, the fireworks were a fantastic display of precisely timed pyrotechnics and a visual celebration of America’s birth of independence.
The Independence Day Celebration was sponsored by Dunkin Donuts, Green Mountain Energy Company, Ben & Jerry’s, David Lerner Associates, Inc., and Cheeburger Cheeburger.

If there were so many food-based sponsors, I would love to know why there was only one truck serving anything close to real food (i.e. not ice cream or popcorn), and an incredibly long line to get such. Many people were disgusted at the 1-hour-plus wait to get a mere hot dog. With thousands of people on hand, did anyone think to invite more food vendors-- especially with national food sponsors hosting? Seriously.

She is a daughter of Marion E. Bouie and Daniel R. Cook of White Plains. The bride's father retired as a freelance computer programmer in Manhattan. Her mother retired as a computer science and math teacher at Public School 86 in the Bronx.

Larchmont- Bring your kids to Flint Park at 10:00 AM 7/4 for the Flint Park Races! From three-legged races to balloon tosses, the kids are sure to start off the holiday on a fun note! Refreshments are served after the races.In the evening, gather the family and bring everyone down to Manor Park for our annual July 4 concert. The music starts at 7:15 PM, rain or shine. While no picnics are permitted in Manor Park, it’s an enjoyable night of music under the stars. The Village of Larchmont does not have a fireworks display, but you’re sure to see fireworks from many communities all up and down Long Island Sound!

New Rochelle: The Westchester Chamber Orchestra will perform a free Independence Day concert, featuring works by American composers Leroy Anderson, Aaron Copland, Victor Herbert, and others on Saturday, July 3 starting at 5:00 p.m. at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, between Huguenot and Main Sts.
“Spark the Sound” fireworks at Five Islands Park. Starts at 9:30 p.m. July 4. Fireworks are visible from all the waterfront parks.
White Plains: Fireworks display at White Plains High School at 550 North St. on Thursday, July 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Park at Memorial United Methodist Church at 250 Bryant Ave.
Scarsdale: Fireworks display at the Scarsdale Pool on Friday, July 2, at 9:15pm, open to the public. Admission will begin at 6:00pm. $2.00
