Veterinary doctors say the number of patients with skin problems has gone up a lot as compared to last month.
Talking to TOI, veterinary doctor R M Bhardwaj informed that more than 10 patients with skin diseases visit him every day and the number would go up further next month. Giving details, Bhardwaj said, ''Acne and mites are the most important types of infections during these days and can further lead to several kinds of infections including deep dermatitis associated with free allergy dermatitis and infections caused by tick bite wounds.''
Bhardwaj said humidity during the monsoon is the primary cause for such infections spreading.
Jaspreet Singh, another veterinary doctor in the city, informed that these kinds of diseases could turn into deep dermatitis but are not communicable to human beings until there is direct contact with any wound. ''I receive about 10 such patients every day. The lack of awareness among pet lovers is a main cause for pets' suffering. Itching and irritation, intense scratching, skin rash, crust formation in the affected area and hair loss are major symptoms of these skin diseases and need to be treated. Scabicidal shampoo should be used to kill all the mites and with a little care people can ensure that it does not spread,'' he added.
Sarabha Nagar-resident Sandeep Kumar said his dog developed a skin infection and despite taking special care, it spread to other parts of his body. ''We took him to a doctor who prescribed medications which helped our pet recover soon,'' he said.
