Finally together, Wendrows try to heal
About this series Julian and Thal Wendrow were criminally charged in late 2007 after their 14-year-old autistic and mute daughter alleged, through facilitated communication, that her father had been sexually abusing her. They were separated from their children for 106 days, until prosecutors dropped the case because of lack of evidence. The family filed a civil lawsuit in federal court that continues today.
Sunday: The allegations come just after Thanksgiving, when the girl's facilitator asks how her weekend went. Julian Wendrow receives a call that afternoon and learns his daughter alleged he had been sexually abusing her. It is a shocking mistake, but one that's easily resolved, he thinks. He's wrong.
Monday: Police and prosecutors build their case against the parents, relying on facilitated communication (FC), a method in which the girl's hand is guided on a keyboard. The girl makes more allegations through her aide. The Wendrow children are sent to foster care, and police arrive with handcuffs to arrest the parents.
Tuesday: Julian and Thal Wendrow find themselves locked up in the Oakland County Jail. Their tight-knit family is scattered, forbidden from speaking to one another.
Wednesday: With evidence mounting that the girl isn't communicating at all, prosecutors and police try to keep the case together. They aggressively question the Wendrows' son, dismiss a nurse's evaluation and attempt to communicate with the girl using FC after a court order was issued barring them from using that method to question her.
Also Wednesday : What is facilitated communication? On Wednesday at noon, Detroit Free Press staff writer L.L. Braiser will host a Web chat with professor James Todd of Eastern Michigan University, who has studied FC extensively.
Thursday Four months after the case started, Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca decides it's time to throw in the towel. Prosecutors say it's because the girl is too afraid to testify.
Today: Julian and Thal Wendrow are reunited with their children, but rebuilding their lives isn't easy. They file a federal lawsuit against police, prosecutors and the Walled Lake school district. Police settle with the family for $1.8 million. In a March 30 ruling, a judge let stand several claims against the school district and the county, but dismissed most claims against individual prosecutors.

In two untitled works, Moore has drawn patterns that offset fields of Ben-Day dots printed on pages from an antique coloring book. In different media, and taking entirely separate approaches, Johnson and Moore reflect on art and its history,
It involved coloring and matching pictures to similar pictures. Without assistance, the girl gets about half of them right. She won't be able to live unassisted, her parents know. Maybe she can develop a skill that will let her work, doing something

Braden Lamb's color work is lush and varied – there's a straddling of the line between a more modern school of coloring; allowing for shadings, shadow, and natural lighting effects – and a more traditional “comic book” aesthetic with colors that zip,

But the inkwork, combined with the coloring by Dean White, brings more than requisite texture and mood. Every Avenger serves a purpose. Each is assembled for a reason. They aren't in the big leagues by accident. The same thing could be said for Bendis,
Case in point: Shuddertown, which has a killer premise—a capable but flawed homicide detective investigating a series of murders whose prime suspects appear to be already dead—and gritty artwork, which incorporates idiosyncratically painted coloring
